NIAID: One in 20 (5%) US children has a food allergy
NIAID, the lead Institute at the National Institutes of Health conducting research on food allergy, meanwhile, claims that food allergies affect c. 5% of children and 4% of adults in the US.
According to a NIAID sponsored expert panel report from 2014, estimated prevalence, some based on self-reporting, among the US population, is: Peanuts: 0.6-1.3%; Tree nuts: 0.4-0.6%, Fish: 0.4%; Crustacean shellfish: 1.2%; All seafood: 0.6% in children and 2.8% in adults, Milk and egg: 1-2% for young children and 0.2-0.4% in the general population.
