We’re taking longer to grow out of allergies
While allergies to milk, egg, wheat and soy generally resolve in childhood, they appear to be resolving more slowly than in previous decades, according to research published in 2007 on milk and eggs (click HERE and HERE).
“The bad news is that the prognosis for a child with a milk or egg allergy appears to be worse than it was 20 years ago,” said Robert Wood, M.D., head of Allergy & Immunology at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. “Not only do more kids have allergies, but fewer of them outgrow their allergies, and those who do, do so later than before.”
Allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, fish, or shellfish, meanwhile, are generally lifelong, says FARE.
