The big eight allergens account for 90% of reactions
According to FARE, eight foods account for 90% of all food-allergic reactions in the US: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts (walnuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios, pecans), wheat, soy, fish, and shellfish.
The ‘big eight’ allergens must be declared on US food labels. However, the FDA does not regulate the use of advisory/precautionary labeling (made in a factory using…. may contain… etc).
