Can Coco-Wormy help insects worm in consumers’ hearts?
High protein-, energy- and fiber-containing meal worms are the basis for Coco-Wormy, a biscuit created by students at the University of Putra Malaysia that took third place in the international category. The students chose mealworms because they have high fatty acid content, vitamin A and other minerals needed by Southeast Asian populations. The biscuits, which can be dipped in milk like a cookie or crumbled as a topping, also include defatted desiccated coconut and sweet potatoes.
