Hiding insects in familiar formats
One way to make inspects more palatable is to grind them into flour and disguise them as familiar staple foods, which is which is what students from McGill University did when they created Falamus Instant Mix, which won first in the US and Canada division of the competition. Falamus is a ready-to-use dry blend made with locusts that can be used to instantly prepare falafels or hummus, according to the team. They created the mix with the refugees of the Syrian Civil War in mind. The United Nations has expressed interest in working with the team to help feed displaced people, Welsh said.
