5 – Peanuts contain the highest levels of arginine of any whole food
Peanuts also contain the highest levels of arginine (an amino acid involved in protein synthesis) of any whole food, which has attracted the interest of cardiologists and sports scientists, as arginine serves as a precursor to nitric oxide, which helps expand blood vessels and decrease blood pressure, which could translate into improved cardiovascular performance.
Peanuts also have higher levels of choline, niacin and folate than other nuts
