Sunrise Strategic Partners - a Colorado-based accelerator of emerging brands - has made a minority investment in Utah-based Kodiak Cakes, which makes high protein breakfast items from pancake mixes to flapjacks.

Family-owned Kodiak Cakes – which appeared on ABC’s Shark Tank two years ago and has since grown sales by over 10 times – is looking to expand distribution into new channels, develop new products and grow its team.

Sunrise - co-founded earlier this year by Steve Hughes and private equity firm Trilantic North America - is looking to work with emerging brands that resonate with millennials, have a strong proof of concept and have reached approximately $10-$20 million in revenue.

To date it has invested in four companies: Perky Jerky, Kodiak Cakes, PACT Organic and Teton Waters Ranch.
