Jody Horner, president of Cargill Meat Solutions, is leaving the company to become president of Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska.

Cargill Meat Solutions, Wichita, Kansas, is an umbrella company for Cargill’s North American beef, pork and turkey, foodservice, food distribution and case-ready businesses. Horner will stay through the end of December, according to local media.

Stepping into the president’s role at Cargill Meat Solutions will be Ruth Kimmelshue, who is now and will remain president of Cargill’s turkey and cooked meats units.

Cargill spokesman Mike Martin told a reporter that some of the president’s responsibilities will be distributed to the heads of other Cargill meat units.

Multi-faceted

Horner has been with Cargill for about 30 years. She became president of Cargill Meat Solutions and the Cargill Case Ready business in 2008. Before that, she was president of Cargill’s salt division, which is based in Minnesota.

Midland University is a small, private institution affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church. As president of the university, Horner succeeds Ben Sasse, who was elected to the US Senate in November.
